Help Center: How do I use Gift Vouchers & Discount Coupons in my store?

If you have the gift voucher and discount coupon option in your store, you have the
ability to sell or give gift vouchers to your customers or offer them special discounts.
Gift vouchers or discount codes are useful for direct mail promotions to encourage people to
visit your site to shop with a discount. If your store does not currently have this option
but you are interested in having it, don't hesitate to talk to us about it.

As always when working with the online store, the first step is
to connect to the admin area, and select 'Catalog' from the menu.

Creating a Gift Voucher: Method 1
You create a gift voucher for a customer to buy in much the same way you would create a new
product (see adding or editing a new product for more
information).

Insert the Product Name, Product Price, and Product Description just as you would
for any other product.
As with a regular product, type '1000' for Product Quantity unless there is a specific
limited quantity.
'Model Number,' must start with the word GIFT in uppercase. It can be GIFT_25 or
GIFT25 or anything else you would like to use as the suffix to the word, but it MUST
START with the word GIFT. You can create gift vouchers in any denomination.
Gift certificate images have been provide in the catalog/images directory in 25$, 50$ and
100$ values. To use one of these, type the appropriate name in the Product
Image field (gv_25.gif, gv_50.gif, or gv_100.gif).
Enter '0.00' for 'Product Weight' since this is a virtual product and no shipping charges will
be associated with it.

Creating a Gift Voucher: Method 2
You can also create gift vouchers by sending them to your customers via the Vouchers/Coupons
Mail Gift Voucher selection within the admininstration menu.
To send a voucher to someone who is already a customer, use the drop down customer list. You
can also choose 'All Customers' or 'To all newsletter subscribers' from this list. This is
especially useful as a special advertisement to encourage people to visit your store.
To send one to a prospective customer, put the person's e-mail address in the 'Email To:'
text box. Do not use both the customer dropdown list and the 'Email To:' text box or the
customer will get 2 gift vouchers.
Type the dollar amount without a dollar sign in the 'Amount' box (ex: 25.00) and add a subject
line and then a short message.
Instructions on how to use the gift voucher will be automatically included in the e-mail.
Click on 'send' to submit the message. You will be taken to a confirmation screen where you
can double check the information before sending the message. If you want to make a change,
use the 'back' button. You can cancel the operation with the 'cancel' button, or send the e-mail
with the 'send mail' button.

Creating Discount Coupons
To create a discount coupon, click on 'Coupon Admin' under 'Vouchers/Coupons' on the left
side of the screen.
You may create, edit, e-mail or delete a coupon. Coupons can be created in fixed or percentage
amounts, for a single product, multiple products, a single category, multiple categories or
the complete inventory.
Insert a Coupon Name, a Description for the customer, an Amount (either a fixed amount, like
5.00 or a percentage, like 5%), and a Minimum Order amount for the coupon to be used.
You may also specify the number of times a coupon may be used (only for the first 50
customers, for example) or the number of times a coupon may be used per customer.
Use 'Start Date' and 'End Date' to specify when the coupon will become valid, and what
its expiration date will be.
Click on 'preview' to see the information you have entered, and click on 'confirm' at the
bottom of the page to confirm it.

Welcome Message Gift Voucher and Discount Coupon
Click on 'Configuration' on the left side of the screen, and then on 'My Store' underneath,
if it is not already selected. On the main part of the screen,
click on the line 'Welcome Gift Voucher Amount' or 'Welcome Discount Coupon Code'. To
edit either of these fields, click on the blue arrow at the end of the line.
'Welcome Gift Voucher Amount' decides what amount you would like to send your customer that
has just created an account as a voucher. If you do not want to send a voucher upon account
creation, set the text box to '0' (it is set to 0 by default).
Do NOT leave it blank.

To change the discount coupon that you send to your customer when creating a new account
place the coupon code that you would like to use in the textbox once you have clicked on the
blue arrow next to 'Welcome Discount Coupon Code.'
